My Experience At Evergreen Senior Living - 866 Words
Lee is a man who now lives at the Evergreen Senior Assisted Living Home. He has gone through many things in his life. He has fought in the Vietnam War, driven tanks, and jumped out of airplanes. He enjoys traveling and tell all who listen that he is scared of nothing. Lee is one of the elderly men I met during my job shadow. Job shadowing at Evergreen Senior Living was an amazing experience. This paper will include, what I observed during the job shadow, the future of this career, my impressions from the job, and how to prepare for this career. I visited Evergreen Senior Living in Chillicothe, IL for my job shadow. There, I followed Kylie Vinson, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and observed one of the many opportunities available to those wanting to work with the elderly population. Kylieââ¬â¢s job as a CNA is to make sure that the residents are as comfortable and as possible. I also followed, Jackie Russell, the Activities Director. She works with the residents to keep thei r brain and body stimulated and healthy. They both work in the dementia and alzheimer s, assisted living part of the facility called Legacy. Kylie and other CNAs are in charge of assisting the residents in many different things, such as getting ready for breakfast. After the residents are seated in the dining room they are the ones who serve the residents their food. If a resident falls, it is the CNAsââ¬â¢ responsibility to instruct the resident how to get up and back on their feet by themselves. The Tit-for-Tat Strategy in the Context of Game Theory
In the context of game theory,Ã tit-for-tat is a strategy in a repeated game (or a series of similar games). Procedurally, the tit-for-tat strategy is to choose the cooperate action in the first round and, in subsequent rounds of play, choose the action that the other player chose in the previous round. This strategy generally results in a situation where cooperation is sustained once it begins, but noncooperative behavior is punished by a lack of cooperation in the next round of play.

Largest Landfill in the World Soon going to the will no longer be a vacation option unless you do not plan to swim. There will probably be a huge amount of plastic and trash in the water. This is due to the Pacific trash vortex. We will write a custom essay sample on Trashed or any similar topic only for you Order Now All of the plastic that has accumulated over the years had either eended up in a landfill or in the ocean. It is however, more likely that the trash has ended up in the ocean. Trash that people just toss in the water ends up in the ocean. Americans fail to realize that bodies of water connect to larger bodies of water which eventually leads to that onee fun special vacation spot. A trash vortex is a big lanfill of garbage and plastic that ends up in the water. It is also known as a garbage patch. Sometimes the vortex is hard to see because the materials sink down to the bottom of the ocean floor. There has been much more garbage placed in the ocean than most people realize. Until you actually research this understanding how much trash ends up in the ocean is not possible. ââ¬Å"Because of its durability and our increased use in recent decades, scientists estimate that plastic makes up 60 to 80 percent of marine debris worldwide. ( ââ¬Å"Trashing the Ocean. ââ¬Å") This essay will further summarize what the pacific trash vortex is, describe the impacts the trash vortex has on the environment, talk about some of the biggest controvesies around this issue, and give my point of views on the issue. A trash vortex is a large area of garbage in the ocean. This area of garbage in the ocean takes up a large amount of space in the ocean. ââ¬Å" It is roughly the si ze of Texas, containing approximately 3. 5 million tons of trash. ââ¬Å" (ââ¬Å"Trashing the Oceanâ⬠). This area is so very large that it can not be hidden. Sometimes the materials just float, but then there are several types of materials that sink into the water and are not very visible by humans. ââ¬Å"The expedition easily spotted some types of plastic. But a larger problem may lurk below the surface. â⬠(ââ¬Å"Giant Ocean-Trash Vortex Documented-A First 5). Most of the trash that has been found in the ocean are things such as plastic bottles, plastic bags, old household materials, etc. There is more than just one trash vortex around the world. ââ¬Å"The Pacific Vortex isnââ¬â¢t the only one. The Atlantic and Indian ocean, which have different current patterns, have plastic gyres of their ownâ⬠(Walsh, Bryan 1). About ten percent of all the plastic produced in the world ends up in the ocean. ââ¬Å" Perhaps ten percent of the two hundred and sixty million tons of plastic produced worldwide each year end up in the sea-much of it in the swirling currents of the North Pacific Gyre and other ocean vortices. ( ââ¬Å"Giant Ocean- Trash Vortex Documented-A first 2) Plastic can not be broken down so if there is nothing done about it over a period of time the ocean will just accumulate more plastic. Most of our waste today is comprised of plastic. Plastic, which is made from petroleum, is a material that the Earth cannot digest. Every bit of plastic that has ever been created still exists. ââ¬Å" (ââ¬Å"Trashing the Ocean. ââ¬Å") If there is more plastic accumulated there will be more animals in the ocean that die. No one knows exactly when trash started becoming a proble m in the ocean or why it became a problem. The trash vortex has been known to kill several animals in the ocean. The trash gets into the ocean a few ways. One of the ways that the trash gets into the ocean is by people throwing trash on land and the rain washing it into things such as sewers. There are several different sizes of garbage that have been thrown in the ocean. ââ¬Å"A single one litre drinks bottle could break down into enough small fragments to put one on every mile of beach in the entire world. These smaller particles are joined by the small pellets of plastic which are the form in which many new plastics are marketed and which can be lost at sea by the drum load or even a whole container load. (ââ¬Å"The Trash Vortexâ⬠). Not all of the things that are thrown in the ocean are large. ââ¬Å"While large pieces are common, the garbage patch is not an island of plastic, the team found on their 19-day expedition in August. Much of the debris is in the form of countless thumbnail-size scraps. â⬠( ââ¬Å"Giant Ocean- Trash Vortex Documented-A firstâ⬠1) Sewers and rivers all lead to the ocean. All the garbage tha t ends up in the sewers eventually end up into the ocean. Another way that garbage ends up in the ocean is by us directly throwing things into the water. The trash vortex has a very unknown impact on the community. There is an unknown impact on the community because not many people know that all this trash exists in the ocean. Some of the people that know the trash vortex exist do what they can to help stop the issue. The trash vortex has a very negative impact on its environment. All the garbage in the ocean has killed several marine animals. Birds are dying because they are mistaking the trash in the ocean for food and an animal can not digest plastic materials. So this leads to the death of several marine animals such as birds and turtles. It has become such an issue to the point where there may not be many marine animals if there is more plastic put into the ocean ââ¬Å"In the ocean, plastic waste accumulates in swirling seas of debris, where plastic to sea life ratios are 6:1; where birds and mammals are dying of starvation and dehydration with bellies full of plastics; where fish are ingesting toxins at such a rate that soon they will no longer be safe to eat. ââ¬Å" (ââ¬Å"Garbage Patch. ââ¬Å") There has also been an issue with the plastic because of an essiential organic compound called zooplankton. They have been finding more trash in the ocean than zooplankton and that is not good because zooplankton is essential to the ecosystem. Zooplankton are little tiny organisms that are important because they feed the animals in the water. Algae is a type of zooplankton. The trash in the water has also been known to absorb organic pollutants which are there for a reason. When they are gone it will be hard to acquire more. People will not realize the full effects that this issue has until it becomes a very severe problem and leads to the death of many marine animals. It can also become a severe problem by effecting the way we have a great time at the beach or on a river trip. The trash vortex in the Pacific ocean is a big issue mainly because it is starting to be a lot more trash than is needed. Trash in the ocean can not be broken down and it does not decompose. ââ¬Å"The very thing that makes plastic items useful to consumers, their durability and stability, also makes them a problem in marine environments. â⬠(ââ¬Å"The Trash Vortexâ⬠). That means that the animals that eat the trash will eventually die. That also means that the number of marine animals will decrease tremendously. That also means that the trash will begin to pile up worse than it is now. That can also affect our water supply because the water we drink on a daily has to come from somewhere. Our water has to be kept clean or it could become a problem to the environment around us and the ecosystem. I believe that this issue does not have to stay an issue. The trash vortex can be handled over a period of time if we all work together to take care of the water. If we clean up and recycle more the garbage patch will not be as big as it is now. The things we can do from our location are make sure that others recycle more and to make sure that we do not become apart of the issue by throwing things in bodies if water. There are a few organizations that try to help by going to some of these areas and cleaning up the land around them. It is not easy to clean up once the plastic has drifted to the bottom of the ocean floor. The issue has not become a huge problem yet, but people have not begun to look at the long terms affects to the environment. If the issue does not stop I feel that it will most certainly become a problem. It will have a negative effect on the marine animals. It is very possible that if the problem does not get any better that we could possibly be looking at some future endangered species. In conclusion, there are so many unknown things floating in the ocean you will be amazed at what people find floating in the ocean ââ¬Å"shoes, toys, bags, pacifiers, wrappers, toothbrushes, and bottles too numerous to count are only part of what can be found in this accidental dump floating midway between Hawaii and San Francisco. (ââ¬Å"Trashing the Ocean. â⬠). The Pacific trash vortex is still an unknown mystery. There are still things that scientist can not figure out about this garbage patch they are actually still trying to figure out all the details. ââ¬Å"Researchers are keen to learn how the massive influx of plastic pieces in recent decades affects area animals from larger creatures such as fish and bird s- which swallow toxic plastic- to tiny organisms such as bacteria and plankton. This plastic may also be hosting invasive bacteria or other species researchers sayâ⬠( ââ¬Å"Giant Ocean-Trash Vortex Documented- A First 3). Trash vortex have been slowly killing birds and other types of animals. This is something that needs to be stopped as soon as possible if we want to help save our animals and our land. Everyone can help in the process whether it is realized or not. The land is something that should not be taken for granted. If we want future generations to have a land then it is our job to protect the land. The Blossom And The Sick Rose free essay sample
The sick rose and the Blossom. William Blake In Songs of Innocence and Experience Blake compares and contrasts the mechanized, urban world with the natural world. At the heart of this is the effects that civilized man measured up against man in a state of nature. Innocence relates not just to childhood in the individual but what has been lost or deformed in mankind by the civilizing forces of society. In the sick rose and the blossom the theme is love, both of the heart and the body.In the blossom there are two stanzas which present two different birds. Both birds appear under leaves so green and happy blossom, and both birds are near my bosom The difference lies in the sparrows success in reaching the cradle. This has been suggested is further explained by the illustration which accompanies the poem, the green, winged figure represents the expectant mother. We will write a custom essay sample on The Blossom And The Sick Rose or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The whole of the illustration is said to represent the moment of creation of new life. The robin is sometimes seen, with his redbreast, as a symbol of a broken heart. This would explain why he is sobbing sobbing and has not reached the goal of procreation. The sick rose is also has the theme of love, but of love corrupted by social ritual Love is always presented as pure and natural by poets and novelists. The Visionary Company: Reading of English Romantic History Harold Bloom The bed has to be found out because it is concealed, and it is already a bed of crimson joy before the worm comes to it. The elements of deliberate concealment and of sexual self-gratification make it clear that the poem attacks the myth of female flight and male pursuit, with its sinister pattern of sexual refusal and consequent destructiveness Bloom is saying the poem artifices the usual myth of love as being about a women running away with a male pursuing her, this is a common male/female stereotype of sexual/ romantic behavior, Bloom says that Blake is criticisms this image as deceitful, the woman runs away, hoping to be pursued and by this behavior urges the male on to sexual violence The worms love is a dark, secret love, and hence destroys life, yet the worm comes invisibly in the night and by agency of the howling storm because a bright open love would not be received. Neither worm nor rose is truly at fault, for Nature has concealed the rose bed and so et the male and female generative contraries against one another. The poems force is in its hinted human parallel, where concealment is more ela borate and the destructive rape-marriage a social ritual Symbolism Night secret Storm= violence Rose = women, love, romance, female sex organs etc worm= destructions, the grave etc, (worms dont actually eat roses, so much for Flakes love of nature) Rose bed = bed The blossom has been interpreted in many different ways, there is no consensus on what it means, but usually is thought to refer to the joy of recreation and motherhood as being the rightful outcome of intercourse. The evidence for this reading is the cradle which is a symbol for childbirth and motherhood and the illustration which accompanies the poem which has a figure dressed in green who is nursing a baby. The difficulty is trying to decide what the two birds represent and why is the robin sobbing. In the procreation theme, the robin would be sad as it has not achieved its goal or procreation. It is difficult however to say for sure whether the two birds are suppose to represent two different aspects of the same theme o r not.

Isaac Newton essays
Isaac Newton essays Isaac Newton was a well-known English scientist. He accomplished a lot during his time and influenced the world a great deal. He is considered to have contributed more to science than any other person. His life can be divided into three periods. The first one was his early childhood, he second was the time of his accomplishments, and the third is his later life. Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. His family was poor and his parents farmed for a living. His father died three months before he was born. His mother later remarried a minister and Newton went to stay with his grandmother. He attended a grammar school at the age of eleven, but did not do well. His teachers said that he did not pay attention. His mother then decided to pull him out of school and put him in charge of her properties. Newton decided that he did not want to do this, and, with the help of his uncle, Newton convinced his mother to let him return to school. Stokes, the headmaster of the school, saw that Newton had potential, therefore, he put extra time into tutoring, guiding and mentoring Newton (OConnor Newton entered Cambridge College on June 5, 1661. He was older than most of the students there and entered as a sizar (a student who received money for college expenses in exchange for being a servant to other students). He wanted to major in law. At Cambridge he studied the philosophies of Aristotle and many other philosophist. During his third year he learned about the philosophies of Descartes, Gassending, but mostly of Boyle. He also read book about Copernicus and his relation to astronomy as well as Galileo and Kepler. Newton became fascinated by the ideas of these scientists. He began recording his thought in a book, which was called Quaestiones Quaedam Philosophicae. He received his bachelors degree in April 1665 (OConnor Newton m...

15 Words for Household Rooms, and Their Synonyms
15 Words for Household Rooms, and Their Synonyms 15 Words for Household Rooms, and Their Synonyms 15 Words for Household Rooms, and Their Synonyms By Mark Nichol Hereââ¬â¢s an alphabetical tour of domestic vocabulary to help you avoid getting lost or walking through the wrong doorway, and to give you a choice in navigating your way: 1. Attic: Synonyms for this word (from the Latin Atticus, ââ¬Å"of Atticaâ⬠) for a room or area under the roof of a house include garret (the term is from the Middle English word garite, ââ¬Å"watchtower, turretâ⬠) and loft (from the Old English word for ââ¬Å"airâ⬠or ââ¬Å"sky), as well as the obscure cockloft. A loft that opens to a lower room is also called a balcony (the term is from the Italian word balcone, ââ¬Å"large windowâ⬠); this term may also refer to an upstairs outside porch or deck. 2. Bathroom: Because of the personal nature of the bathroomââ¬â¢s function, this room has many (mostly euphemistic) synonyms, including latrine and lavatory (both words are derived from the Latin word lavare, to washâ⬠), as well as restroom, washroom, and ââ¬Å"water closetâ⬠; most of these, however, are usually applied only to public facilities. Bath or toilet (the latter term is derived from the French word toilette, ââ¬Å"clothâ⬠) are also common usage though toilet more often refers specifically to the key fixture as are slang terms like head (this term is from naval usage, when the ââ¬Å"bathroomâ⬠was the bow of the ship), john (from the given name), or loo (suggested to be from the French word lââ¬â¢eau, ââ¬Å"waterâ⬠). Privy, ultimately from Latin privatus, ââ¬Å"private,â⬠was originally synonymous with outhouse but may also refer to an interior room. 3. Boudoir: This French term (amusingly derived from the French word bouder, ââ¬Å"to poutâ⬠) can apply to a bedroom, a dressing room, or a sitting room for the woman of the house. It has erotic connotations that, depending on context, the more utilitarian bedroom may or may not have. 4. Cellar: This area, often partially or completely belowground (see hall for etymology), is also called a basement. Because such areas often remain cooler than the rest of the dwelling, the cellar was originally used to store food and/or wine. More recently, it has been relegated to a general storage space or converted into one or more bedrooms or an informal entertainment area. 5. Closet: This term, from the Anglo-French word closett, a diminutive of clos, ââ¬Å"enclosure,â⬠originally referred to a secluded room but now applies to a usually walk-in cabinet for storing clothes and/or other household items. 6. Conservatory: Often a separate building (also known as a greenhouse) but sometimes attached to a house, the conservatory (the term stems ultimately from the Latin word conservare, ââ¬Å"keep, observeâ⬠) is familiar to players of the board game Clue but rare in real life. The similar solarium (the term is from the Latin word for a porch with sun exposure), also known as a sunroom or a sun parlor, is a glass-enclosed room that may double as a conservatory. 7. Den: This term was borrowed from the synonym for lair, and the connotation of a secluded refuge is not coincidental; the neologism ââ¬Å"man caveâ⬠(or mancave) suggests a retreat where the lord of the manor may escape to avoid responsibilities or the expectation that he behave in a civilized manner. The den may be used for entertainment or as an office or a study; those terms are also likely to be applied to a spare room where academic, professional, or leisure writing or research is done and/or where household management is conducted. 8. Foyer: This word, adopted into English from French when France was considered the epitome of all that is refined and proper, in the latter language means ââ¬Å"fireplaceâ⬠(the word is ultimately derived from the Latin word focus, ââ¬Å"hearthâ⬠). In humble abodes, the hearth was close to the door (as was everything else), but the name stuck even as dwellings became larger. The word applies to entrance areas in public buildings as well; synonyms like entranceway, entryway, and lobby are usually applied only in that context, not in identifying the domestic equivalent. Vestibule (the term is from the Latin word vestibulum, ââ¬Å"forecourtâ⬠) is a synonym that suggests a transitional area. An earthier equivalent, generally referring to a separate small chamber, is mudroom, though this area is often entered through a side door. 9. Garage: This term derives from the French word for ââ¬Å"the act of docking, from garer ââ¬Å"to dockâ⬠; itââ¬â¢s probably related to guard and guarantee. It was originally (and sometimes still is) detached from the house and, before the advent of the automobile, was preceded by the carriage house, itself an extension or evolution of a barn. 10. Hall: This word, stemming from the Old English heall and related to the Latin word cella, ââ¬Å"small roomâ⬠(whence cellar see above), originally referred to an entire dwelling (or at least its primary chamber) at a time when that was the living arrangement for a chieftain or a nobleman. By extension, the word came to be applied later to public buildings, campus edifices, and the like, but it also diminished to refer to the entry of a house, and ultimately, when houses became more extensive, a corridor or passageway that communicates to various rooms. The sense of ââ¬Å"entryâ⬠is discussed above in the, er, entry for foyer. 11. Kitchen: For reasons of safety, the kitchen (the term derives ultimately from the Latin word coquere, ââ¬Å"to cookâ⬠) was a separate building, but now it is often the figurative heart of the home. Related terms include buttery (a storeroom for liquor, from the Anglo-French word but, ââ¬Å"caskâ⬠), pantry (a storeroom for food, ultimately from Latin panis, ââ¬Å"breadâ⬠), and scullery (a cleaning area, ultimately from the Latin word scutella, ââ¬Å"drinking bowlâ⬠). 12. Library: Originally, in some homes an entire room was set aside just to store the domestic collection of books, either for ostentatious display (and perhaps rarely, if ever, read) or for practical purposes, in which case the room doubled as an office or study. The term stems from the Latin word librarium, based on the stem libr-, ââ¬Å"book.â⬠13. Nursery: When, in the homes of the well-to-do, children were best not seen nor heard, they were relegated to the nursery (the term is ultimately derived from the Latin word nutricius, ââ¬Å"nourishingâ⬠), a combination sleeping and playing area. Now, a nursery is simply a bedroom occupied by the very young. 14. Parlor: As the name (from the Anglo-French word parler, ââ¬Å"talkâ⬠) implies, this is a room dedicated to conversation among inhabitants or with their guests; ââ¬Å"drawing roomâ⬠(from ââ¬Å"withdrawing room,â⬠the room to which guests at a dinner party withdrew for postprandial conversation) is a synonym, as are salon and ââ¬Å"sitting room.â⬠The hall and the parlor have been supplanted by the living room and/or the family room, the latter a fairly recent development to provide a casual environment in contrast to the former, a more formal area. (Some houses, by contrast, have a great room, a large open area that may include space for more than one activity as well as a dining area and free access to the kitchen.) 15. Porch: The porch (the term is from the Latin word portico, ultimately derived from porta, ââ¬Å"gateâ⬠) is usually merely a raised approach to a house, though it can be enclosed and might double as a solarium (see below). Synonyms are gallery, lanai (from Hawaiian), piazza (from Italian) stoop, and veranda or verandah (from Hindi and Urdu); all but stoop (from the Dutch word for a step) imply an expansive area. A sleeping porch is a well-ventilated area, sometimes adjacent to a bedroom, for sleeping on hot, still nights. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day?
